Thank you so much Sunshine Animal Hospital for always taking such good care of our Beau. Routine care, unfortunate meetings when he “caught” a porcupine, advising on his cancer/tumor diagnosis and helping him cross the rainbow bridge in May of ‘26.

At 8am this morning, we dropped off our pup, Scout (a 1.5-year-old GSD-mix), to be spayed. Around 10am, I received a phone call and was advised that they had encountered complications during surgery. The doctor was unable to control the bleeding, and made the decision to transport Scout to The Regional Veterinary Referral Center. Scout went back into surgery shortly after arriving at the emergency room. Fortunately, the bleeding had stopped by the time the RVRC surgeon opened her back up, thanks to the phenomenal work packing the bleed by the doctor and vet techs at Sunshine. Scout is being kept overnight for monitoring, but we were able to visit her this evening. She's a very drugged up girly, feeling pretty good. :-) There are risks to every surgery. The folks at Sunshine did everything in their power to mitigate risk with surgery. Here's what you should take away from this: The doctor and team at Sunshine Animal Hospital recognized a potentially catastrophic situation: an unexpected bleed that became impossible to control without additional tools. They immediately began phoning local emergency rooms. While someone was coordinating with the emergency rooms, the doctor and vet techs focused on doing the very best they could to pack the abdomen with gauze to prep Scout for transport. Scout is still alive, first and foremost, because of the quick thinking and operational excellence of the doctors and staff at Sunshine Pet Hospital. We truly cannot thank them enough. Additionally, the doctors and vet techs at RVRC did a wonderful job finding the bleed and continuing Scout's spay surgery, as well as monitoring her. Scout isn't out of the woods yet, but I couldn't feel more confident in the abilities in every human being who has helped Scout today. Thank you all.
