The Regional Veterinary Referral Center

It is relatively easy to make appointments with this facility and the staff is professional in the office. They have a terrible policy on follow up communication. My vet office reached out to them several times and did not receive a return call. I spoke with one member of the staff and they said it was because they were provided with information but given no context. I have alerted my own vet to this issue in their own process, but the bottom line is that if the office is not receiving the correct information, their job is not to sit on the information and let time go by. They can reach out to the office from where the information was sent. Since this happened on more than one instance this is just a lack of service that seems inappropriate for a business that manages the lives and health of living beings and not some call center handling sock returns. Beyond that they were defensive instead of just saying "we do our best to communicate our expectations with vets." They have no relationship with these other offices and this despite that I imagine the majority of their patients are from referrals from these very offices they make no effort in having a relationship with. The process, whether or not it is common, is harmful. I have worked in operational on call settings before and we handled IT issues with more concern. They have a sign in the office that says something like "we care about them like you do." So... sure.

I brought my cat in a month or so ago and they did an ultrasound and other tests claimed she’s constipated and they removed poop manually by pushing on her stomach and nothing else. All of a sudden she is super lazy and we go back they say she’s lost a lot of blood and likely hemorrhaged and they don’t have the blood she needs. They called 10 or so places and couldn’t find it and then stopped and gave dog blood saying she’s looking better and will keep overnight. Around 3AM get a call saying her blood dropped again and she’s not going to make it, they start calling and find the blood in Williamsburg but had they continued to call before I would have gone down the day before and picked up the blood so it was there for when she needed it. There was someone with a cat who could donate and they refused to take the cats blood and give it to her because they had to test the blood first, again something that could have been done the day before. They wouldn’t do anything to try to save her and kept saying to euthanize her. We ended up taking her home so she could pass on her own at home where she was comfortable. Through out the time she was in the hospital they had a cone on her that was so tight it left red marks all around her neck. They didn’t take care of my baby and they didn’t care. The night doctor was absolutely not equipped nor did she seem to give care about doing anything but wanting to stick her and kill her on the spot. Worst ER ever. The whole time she’s sitting there claiming I wouldn’t recommend doing this I wouldn’t do that. We were ready to drive my baby down to the blood and get it there and she’s bad mouthing that facility saying they don’t have specialists. Well your specialists aren’t doing anything. She claimed my baby had minutes and she lasted until well past noon. Worst experience ever. I wouldn’t never recommend taking your pet here. Go to any other ER. All they want to do is make money and will not look after your pet properly, just do whatever to get more money out of you.

My dear dog was hospitalized there for 3 days. I felt rushed always while we are taken care. When I contacted them for follow up urine culture because doctor gave us option either come back there to get or go to primary care, they told me about charging additional ER visit plus lab even after I paid over $3000 for same issue. And lady over the phone was so rude and didn't want to help and asking me call back multiple times giving me all different kind of reasons such as machine not working and busy etc. And telling me you need to wait for 6 hours if we come. She just wants me to go away. Very ignorant and they don't want to help pt when it's not too much money for them. Not considerate at all and felt like they just look at us as $ sign. No HEART there

The dogs always wait until their regular vet is closed to have an issue, necessitating a visit to an emergency vet. We were seen very quickly. They performed a thorough exam and testing. Pricing was very reasonable for an emergency vet visit. I'm sure we will be visiting them again.

Having to put my dog down was one of the hardest things I’ve ever had to do, but this vet clinic was incredibly compassionate and supportive through the entire process. The staff treated my dog with dignity, kindness, and genuine care, and they showed so much empathy to my family during such a painful time. They made an unbearable situation a little easier, and I’ll always be grateful for the professionalism and compassion they showed us. I highly recommend them to anyone looking for a vet clinic that truly cares. UPDATE: Today I picked up my Sasha puppy from the clinic. Everything was packed beautifully, and the box she’s in is very nice. Her paw print was done so thoughtfully as well. After settling in for the night, I checked the mail and found a card from RVEC with a packet of forget me not seeds inside. I’ve never run a business before, but the fact that the owner or someone on their team thought of something like this and was willing to do it for families going through such a difficult decision was incredibly thoughtful and appreciated. I wish I could leave another five star review. I don't think this is a 4.0 company. All the staff there are very nice and I wish they could move to NC with me. Form the Stephens family, thank yall very much for what yall do!! For the person at RVRC that reads this review, make sure your staff and the ppl that were involved with Sasha are told that as well!
